Working With Staff And Parent

On a day to day basis we interact with other teachers, specialist, social workers, and resources teachers, therefore it is important that colleagues work together professionally. Working together provides an environment conducive to learning, and ensures that the most important goal is met- that students receive the best education possible. Communication between parents, teachers and student is one of the most important elements to students’ success. The following are key strategies for effectively working with parents:

  •     Send welcome letter at the start of the school year.
  •     Teachers should promote communication on a daily basis. The agenda is a wonderful way to communicate with parents, as they look at them each night to ensure that their child’s homework is completed.
  •     Inform parents by sending home letters on classroom news, such as upcoming project, themes, fieldtrip, special events taking place in the school.
  •     Allow yourself extra time to meet with parents before or after school.
  •     Send home notes to parents not only when child has misbehaved, but also when the child has displayed excellent behaviour.
  •     Encourage parents to get involve in school life.
  •     Invite parents into classroom during special events.
  •     During parent interviews, you must be honest with the parents about students progress, but at the same time provide more positive rather  than negative comment
